Dr. Paul E. Jacobs Remains Executive Chairman of the Board; Changes Effective March 4, 2014

SAN DIEGO December 13, 2013 Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously approved a succession plan for executive management of the Company. Effective December 12, 2013, Steve Mollenkopf was promoted to Chief Executive Officer-elect of Qualcomm, and appointed to its Board of Directors. He will continue to serve as the Company’s President. Effective March 4, 2014, following the Company’s 2014 Annual Meeting of Stockholders, Mollenkopf will become Chief Executive Officer. In this role, he will assume overall responsibility for Qualcomm, including all lines of business and all functional groups in the Company. On March 4, 2014, Dr. Paul E. Jacobs will assume the role of Executive Chairman, helping guide development of new technology and Qualcomm’s long-term opportunities.

In his nearly 20 years at Qualcomm, Steve Mollenkopf has held a variety of leadership positions including leading the chipset business (QCT), successfully driving innovation and record growth. Under his leadership, Qualcomm became the world’s largest mobile chipset supplier and the global leader in LTE technology. Under Mollenkopf, QCT also completed the $3.1 billion acquisition of Atheros, the Company’s largest acquisition to date, to accelerate the expansion of Qualcomm’s technologies and platforms beyond cellular. Most recently he served as Qualcomm’s president and chief operating officer and as a member of the executive committee, helping to drive Qualcomm’s overall global strategy. Alliance for Wireless Power Unveils Rezence Brand
New brand to help consumers identify certified, next generation wireless charging products

FREMONT, Calif., December 12, 2013 The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) today announced the debut of Rezence, a new consumer-facing brand that will act as the official name for the organization’s wireless power technology. The Rezence brand will be used to support the A4WP product certification program by providing consumers with a recognizable icon that member companies can add to Rezence-certified product packaging, technical literature and future software applications. The official launch of the A4WP product certification program is targeted for the end of this year.
“The challenge for the A4WP marketing committee and its branding agency was to create a distinct and easy to recognize brand concept that would speak to the unique benefits our technology brings to the wireless charging ecosystem,” said Geoff Gordon, A4WP marketing committee chair. “The name Rezence was derived from the words resonance and essence, communicating both the underlying technology and its ability to charge all types of electronic devices. The Rezence logo includes a simple, iconic mark in the form of a Z that can also be used as a standalone mark on a variety of applications.

Qualcomm Technologies Introduces Snapdragon 410 Chipset with Integrated 4G LTE World Mode for High-Volume Smartphones

4G LTE, 64-Bit Processing Expands Qualcomm Technologies’ Global Product Offerings and Reference Design Program

SAN DIEGO December 9, 2013 Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has introduced the QualcommR Snapdragon 410 chipset with integrated 4G LTE World Mode. The delivery of faster connections is important to the growth and adoption of smartphones in emerging regions, and Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are poised to address the needs of consumers as 4G LTE begins to ramp in China. The new Snapdragon 410 chipsets are manufactured using 28nm process technology. They feature processors that are 64-bit capable along with superior graphics performance with the Adreno 306 GPU, 1080p video playback and up to a 13 Megapixel camera. Snapdragon 410 chipsets integrate 4G LTE and 3G cellular connectivity for all major modes and frequency bands across the globe and include support for Dual and Triple SIM. Together with Qualcomm RF360 Front End Solution, Snapdragon 410 chipsets will have multiband and multimode support. Snapdragon 410 chipsets also feature Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM and NFC functionality, and support all major navigation constellations: GPS, GLONASS, and China’s new BeiDou, which helps deliver enhanced accuracy and speed of Location data to Snapdragon-enabled handsets. The chipset also supports all major operating systems, including the Android, Windows Phone and Firefox operating systems. Qualcomm Reference Design versions of the processor will be available to enable rapid development time and reduce OEM R&D, designed to provide a comprehensive mobile device platform. The Snapdragon 410 processor is anticipated to begin sampling in the first half of 2014 and expected to be in commercial devices in the second half of 2014.

Qualcomm Technologies also announced for the first time the intention to make 4G LTE available across all of the Snapdragon product tiers. The Snapdragon 410 processor gives the 400 product tier several 4G LTE options for high-volume mobile devices, as the third LTE-enabled solution in the product tier. By offering 4G LTE variants to its entry level smartphone lineup, Qualcomm Technologies ensures that emerging regions are equipped for this transition while also having every major 2G and 3G technology available to them. Qualcomm Technologies offers OEMs and operators differentiation through a rich feature set upon which to build innovative high-volume smartphones for budget-conscious consumers.

Qualcomm Announces Availability of its Gimbal Proximity Beacons to Enable Customer Engagement Based on Micro Location

SAN DIEGO Dec. 9, 2013 Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Retail Solutions, Inc., has made its Gimbal proximity beacons commercially available as part of the Gimbal context aware, proximity platform. Gimbal proximity beacons, available in two models, are accurate down to one foot and work indoors and outdoors.

Gimbal is a comprehensive context aware, proximity platform for brands to engage their customers’ mobile devices with highly relevant communications using a powerful combination of physical location, activity, time and personal interests. Gimbal helps increase the relevance of content delivered to end users’ devices, filtering out the irrelevant and offering more personalized experiences, thereby allowing retailers, venues, content providers and developers to send personalized high-value content to enhance their users’ mobile devices. The overall Gimbal context aware platform supports iOSR and Android; while the new Gimbal proximity beacons support iOS today with planned support for Android.

“With the availability of Gimbal proximity beacons, we are empowering brands to take mobile engagement with their customers to a whole new level through micro-location,” said Rocco Fabiano, president of Qualcomm Retail Solutions. “Gimbal with its proximity beacons that use low-energy Bluetooth Smart is the complete package. The Gimbal platform features two proximity beacon models to address a wide range of use cases: the Series 20 (95mm x 102mm x 24mm) and the Series 10 (28mm x 40mm x 5.6mm). Companies that deploy the Gimbal platform can manage Gimbal beacons using Gimbal Manager. The beacons communicate over BluetoothR Smart for long battery life. Depending on the use cases, Series 10 beacons have a battery life of many months or up to a year; Series 20 beacons have a battery life of 1-3 years. The beacons also can be configured to longer transmission intervals, for a battery life of up to several years.

Depending on volume, Series 10 beacons are available for as little as $5 each and Series 20 beacons are available for as little as $10 each.

The Gimbal context aware, proximity platform enables brands to engage consumers with relevant, timely and personalized communications sent to their mobile devices. Use of the platform enables brands to increase sales and drive loyalty by delivering highly relevant communications while those consumers are physically present in their stores and venues. Brands using the Gimbal platform can send customized communications based on interest derived from geofence triggers and proximity triggers, all matched to inferred interests. These brands can then further refine their offerings via analytics provided by the Gimbal platform. To address user privacy requirements, the Gimbal platform has at its core user-controlled privacy settings and focuses on the secure transmission of all information.

クアルコムは4月7日(米国時間)にLTE Advanced Category 6/最大60MHzのキャリアアグリゲーションに対応した64ビット対応次世代Snapdragon 810 および808を発表しました。

◆ Snapdragon 810および808の特徴は以下の通りです。
- 両プロセッサーは、RF360(tm)フロントエンドソリューションに対応したクアルコムの第4世代となるLTE Advanced Category 6対応マルチモードモデムと統合し、最大300 Mbpsのデータレートが可能となる3x20MHzのキャリアグリゲーションをサポートします。
- 20nmプロセス、進化したマルチメディア機能に対応し、低消費電力で、LTE Advancedをグローバルに一つで設計することが可能な初のプレミアム層の64ビットプロセッサーです。
- 64ビットARMv8-A命令セットに対応します。
- サンプル出荷は今年後半を予定しており、商用端末は2015年前半までに発売される予定です。
- 次世代のカスタム64ビットCPUマイクロアーキテクチャーは年内に発表される予定です。

◆ Snapdragon 810の特徴
- 64ビットクアッドコアのARM Cortex-A57 CPUと Cortex-A53 CPUから構成されており、ARMv8-A ISAで実行されます。
- ジャイロスタビライぜーションと3Dノイズリダクションによりリッチなネイティブ4K Ultra HDが可能となり、14ビット・デュアル・イメージ・シグナル・プロセッサー(ISPs)が、1.2GP/秒スループットと最大55メガピクセルのイメージセンサーに対応します。
- Qualcomm(r) Adreno(tm) 430 GPUが搭載されており、前世代のAdreno 420に比べグラフィック性能が30%向上、GPUパフォーマンスは100%向上した一方、消費電力は最大20%低下しました。

- 2個のARM Cortex-A57 コアとペアになったクアッドコアのCortex-A53 CPUで構成されています。
- 2Kディスプレイをサポートします。また、12ビット・デュアル・イメージシグナル・プロセッサーに対応します。
- フレームバッファ圧縮による4KディスプレーのサポートならびにHDMI1.4経由で外部ディスプレーのサポートも可能です。

Qualcomm Announces “The Ultimate Connected Computing” Next- Generation Snapdragon 810 and 808 Processors
- New High-Performance 64-bit Snapdragon Processors Integrate Cat 6 LTE Advanced / Carrier Aggregation up to 60 MHz -

SAN DIEGO - April 7, 2014 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., introduced its next- generation mobile processors for the Qualcomm(r) Snapdragon(tm) 800 tier, the Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors, which are designed to deliver the ultimate connected mobile computing experiences in video, imaging and graphics. The Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors are Qualcomm Technologies’ highest performing platform to date, completing Qualcomm Technologies’ lineup of 64-bit enabled, LTE-equipped chipsets for premium mobile computing devices. The Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors enable an exceptional overall user experience with seamless connectivity and industry-leading power efficiency for flagship smartphones and tablets.

Both the Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 808 processors integrate Qualcomm Technologies’ 4th Generation Cat 6 LTE Advanced multimode modem together with support for the Qualcomm RF360(tm) Front End Solution, and support 3x20MHz Carrier Aggregation, enabling speeds of up to 300 Mbps in the broadest set of spectrum deployment configurations to date. Both processors are designed in 20nm technology node with Cat 6 LTE, advanced multimedia features and 64-bit capability, all tightly integrated and optimized for exceptionally low power consumption that does not sacrifice performance, making them the first premium-tier 64-bit processors to enable LTE Advanced globally with a single design. These products underscore Qualcomm Technologies focus on 64-bit leadership, accelerating its availability across all product tiers while maintaining a long-term commitment to the continued development of its own next-generation custom 64-bit CPU microarchitecture, with more details expected to be shared later this year.

The Snapdragon 810 processor, as Qualcomm Technologies’ highest performing Snapdragon platform to date, also supports:
- Rich native 4K Ultra HD interface and video, along with an upgraded camera suite using gyro-stabilization and 3D noise reduction for producing high quality 4K video at 30 frames per second and 1080p video at 120 frames per second. The combined 14-bit dual Image Signal Processors (ISPs) are capable of supporting 1.2GP/s throughput and image sensors up to 55MP. Advanced imaging software helps enable advanced mobile camera features, including enhanced exposure, white balance and fast low light focus.
- The combined 64-bit quad core ARM Cortex-A57 CPUs and Cortex-A53 CPUs are designed to enable an improved user experience based on the advanced technology feature set, while implementation of the new ARMv8-A ISA enables improved instruction set efficiency.
- Designed for 4K displays, the new Qualcomm(r) Adreno(tm) 430 graphics processing unit (GPU) provides support for OpenGL ES 3.1 plus hardware tessellation, geometry shaders and programmable blending. The Adreno 430 is designed to deliver up to 30% faster graphics performance and 100% faster GPGPU compute performance, while reducing power consumption by up to 20%, as compared to its predecessor, the Adreno 420 GPU. The Adreno 430 GPU also enables a new level of GPU security for secure composition and management of premium video and other multimedia.
- The Snapdragon 810 processor introduces high speed LPDDR4 memory.
- Frame buffer compression and external 4K display support via HDMI1.4.
- First mobile platform to implement Qualcomm(r) VIVE(tm) 2-stream 802.11ac with multi-user MIMO, which makes Wi-Fi(r) networks more efficient than ever in order to maximize the performance of local connectivity for mobile devices.
- Support for Bluetooth(r) 4.1, USB 3.0, NFC and the latest Qualcomm(r) IZat(tm) location core for ubiquitous and highly accurate location services.

The Snapdragon 808 processor is designed for premium performance and integrates the same LTE-Advanced, RF360 and Wi-Fi connectivity as the Snapdragon 810 processor and includes 2K display support. Both chipsets are fully software compatible with the 64-bit ARMv8-A instruction set. The primary differences of the Snapdragon 808 processor include:
- Designed for WQXGA (2560x1600) displays, the new Adreno 418 GPU provides support for OpenGL ES 3.1 plus hardware tessellation, geometry shaders, programmable blending. It is designed to support up to 20% faster graphics performance than its predecessor, the Adreno 330 GPU. The Adreno 418 GPU also enables a new level of GPU security for secure composition and management of premium video and other multimedia.
- Configured with two ARM Cortex-A57 cores paired with a quad Cortex-A53 CPU.
- 12-bit dual Image Signal Processors.
- LPDDR3 memory.
- Frame buffer compression and external 4K display support via HDMI1.4.

【ご案内】Qualcomm関連著述フォローについて

 このブログでは、拙著「クアルコムの次世代プラットフォーム戦略2010[LTE/Android/Snapdragon/Brew MP/MediaFLO]」および「ケータイビジネスを革新する技術 BREW」と、ITmediaビジネスモバイル連載(Business Media 誠 収録)「BREW最新事情」等のフォローとして、Qualcomm社から提供されるリリースなどを掲載していますが、昨年から大量のコメントスパム、トラックバックスパムが襲来したため、しばらくの間、中断していました。
